Staff Expectations:

If you feel led to help with Merritt Youth Retreat, please thoroughly read through the following expectations. We ask that you prayerfully consider whether or not you can adhere to the expectations listed below. The Board of DOM does not seek to be legalistic. Instead, our desire is to hold our staff accountable to a higher level. According to James 3:1 (Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.) and Matthew 18:6 (but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.), we understand that those who lead and teach will be held to a greater accountability. 1 Corinthians 11:1 also tells that we are to be examples of Christ (Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ). Therefore, in a world where compromise is so common, we desire to hold our staff leaders accountable to the truths of God’s Word.

  1. Staff need to use appropriate and God-honoring language.

  2. ALL staff members should adhere strictly to our Dress Code and Sexuality Policy.

  3. No staff member should take any camper beyond the boundaries of camp.

  4. Staff members should not engage in lengthy one-on-one conversations or relationships with campers of the opposite gender.

  5. If a staff member is conversing with a camper of the same gender in a one-on-one setting, he/she should be in the line of sight of another staff member.

  6. Staff members should strive to maintain an attitude of positivity and thankfulness.

  7. All staff members should try to align their conversations with the purpose of DOM. (Please try to avoid using judgmental language as well as arguments regarding political views.)

Before You Register:
