Small Group
Leader Application

It is our desire as a board to provide spiritual leadership to the Merritt Youth Retreat ministry.  To that end, we have articulated some spiritual guidelines for the Merritt Youth Retreat small group leaders.

1.  The primary goal of the camp is to invite students to have a relationship with Christ.  This is best modeled by small group leaders having a relationship with Christ.

2.  Participation in a local body of believers is vital to the spiritual health of any believer.  Each small group leader should be a regular part of a local body of believers whose doctrine is in harmony with that of Merritt Youth Retreat.

3.  The small group leader is to model mature, self-controlled behavior both at camp and in their daily lives.  This includes showing maturity and self-control on all forms of social media.  Please be aware that students are observant and they will take, to the extreme, the behaviors modeled by small group leaders.  As small group leaders (you) develop relationships throughout the years, students will hear what you talk about and see what you do and say on social media.  What you do can greatly impact and shape the actions of our student campers.  (Titus 2:1-8)

4.  The small group leader must apply himself/herself to the essential elements of a relationship with Christ.  This includes the study, memorization, and reading of Scripture (1 Timothy 4:13), prayer (Ephesians 6:18), and developing a compassionate heart (1Peter 3:8).
